From Deale, Maryland, brothers T.J. and John Osborne grew up listening to country and rock music, and were inspired to write their own music. When they were teens they formed the cover band Deuce & a Quarter and they covered songs from bands/artists like, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Merle Haggard, Bob Seger, and others. In 2012 they signed a record deal with Capitol.
“Combined, the two Osbornes can play everything from traditional country music to rock & roll, creating a broad, full-bodied sound that would eventually fill the 11 songs on their major-label debut, Pawn Shop,” says their official website. This album offers a little bit of everything for everyone. Their album Pawn Shop was released on January 15, 2016.
1. Dirt Rich: This was a great intro to this album. It reminds me that money isn’t everything and how you’re supposed to be happy with what you have.
Lyrics: We work the long day, sun up to payday, for a live this big, if you’re broke don’t fix it, learn to live with it, like it just the way it is, when you’re dirt rich.
2. 21 Summer: This song makes me think of driving with the windows down blaring music with friends in the car. It’s a slower song, but it is still one of my favorite songs on the album.
Lyrics: I hope you find the storm that you were chasing, hope your eyes are still full of dreams,
as they were that night when you slipped off those cut off jeans, when I hear the sound of high tide thunder,
I can see your hair blowing in the breeze, I think about how you and that 21 summer made a man of me.
3. Stay a Little Longer: When I first heard this song, I didn’t know who it was but I loved it. I had to Shazam the song, and when I found out it was this band, I was so excited and I wanted to hear more from them.
Lyrics: One last kiss and then you’re a goner, and I’m here wishing you could stay a little longer.
4. Pawn Shop: When I hear this, I think of no matter what you have, you can find what you want even if you don’t buy it, because the best things in life don’t come from money. It’s about enjoying every moment and being around people that you care about.
Lyrics: If you need cash like yesterday, if you got jumped just laying around, no pretty check just bring it on down, at the pawn shop.
5. Rum: This was the first song I ever heard from them and I fell in love with this song. When I first heard this song, I realized that it has a different sound to it that drew me in. It makes me think of my friends and I jamming in the car with the windows down.
Lyrics: Dipping our toes in the water, I don’t care if it gets any hotter, It’s you and me rememberin’ how to have fun, Let’s put our hearts together,
Two parts love and a pinch of good weather, and top it all off with the sun and mix it with rum.
6. Loving Me Back (feat. Lee Ann Womack): I love how this song is stripped back and it’s just the brothers and Womack singing with a guitar behind them. I was blown away when I first heard this song as to how well their voices work together.
Lyrics: Bright lights and guitars, and dive bars, playing for tips,
and pouring your heart out to strangers is a strange kind of fix,
But filling a dance floor, is something I live for, but I give more than I’ll ever get back,
yeah I finally found something worth loving, that’s loving me back.
7. American Crazy: This song makes me think of all the issues that have come up throughout the years. The racial issues, schooling and all of that. This song says that it doesn’t matter what we look like or where we come from, that we are all the same and happy with who we are.
Lyrics: We’re lost, we’re found, we’re up, we’re down, we’re all just American crazy,
We’re left, we’re right, we’re black, we’re white, we’re all just American crazy, just American crazy.
8. Greener Pastures: This song makes me think of how making changes in your life are sometimes the best decisions of your life. You get to experience new things and learn from the mistakes and fall on your own, but always remember to get up after you fall. The more you fall the stronger you become.
Lyrics: I tried prayin’ to the Man up high, I tried drinkin’ ’til the well ran dry,
I’m movin’ on to greener pastures.
9. Down Home: The beat of this song makes it an easy song to jam to in the car. This song became a favorite for me when I listened to the whole album. Something about this song just pulls me in and it’s something I’ll always love about music.
Lyrics: My, my amen, just waiting till the stars come out, there’s a whole lot of something going down, down, down, down home.
10. Heart Shaped Locket: Another favorite song for me, when I hear this song I can hear the old school country sound and that’s my favorite part about this song. For me, I love that older sound and I like a lot of the newer stuff, but I think people should listen to the older style of country to really appreciate the newer sound.
Lyrics: I don’t believe it, you got me beating like a pistol, whatever you say, whose in your heart shaped locket?
11. It Ain’t My Fault: I love how this song used the title “It Ain’t My Fault” and how people can blame everything on others, but it isn’t his or her fault when something happens to someone else. Also, this song is something that is very good to listen to in the car. Trust me, I listened to the whole album in the car.
Lyrics: Blame the bar for the band, blame the band for the song, blame the song for the party that went all night long, but it ain’t my fault.
