Our Lady Chiefs varsity volleyball team suffered an unfortunate defeat at the hands of Atlantic High School in a volleyball match on Thursday night. The game was an enjoyable watch nonetheless.
The Chiefs started strong, taking the lead with the first set at 25-18. But as the second set commences, Atlantic starts off with an almost immediate lead of two points. The Eagles take the second set, giving the Chiefs quite a scare. But after a team huddle with their coaches, the Chiefs looked confident as they got back into the match.
The Chiefs and Eagles kept an extremely tight score for the rest of the game, one right behind the other. But sadly, the Chiefs lost the match 2-3 after five sets.
“It was a good game,” said one observer, “but I think we should’ve had it.”
One player said, “It was hard going on after the third set. I felt that we should have won, and [that] made it harder to keep up the same energy.”
Coach Banks said simply, “Communication is 100% key.” Many people felt that the problem with this game was poor team communication. Asyeli Rivera, another player, promised, “We will work together even more as a team in the future.”
Another one of our Lady Chiefs, Natalie Villanucci, said, “I think it’s definitely a stepping stone for our success because after losing to that team, it really shows us what we need to work on and better, to be more successful.”
The Lady Chiefs left the game in high spirits, playing music as they danced on the court. In the end, knowing our Lady Chiefs, with the help of their coaches, will use this as a learning experience by working on their mistakes, working hard to fix them, and ultimately rising above the rest.
We believe in our Lady Chiefs’ determination to overcome any challenges and expect them to dominate the court in their next match!!!
