December 4 is the day that changed many young high school athletes’ lives. National Signing Day is the day when high school seniors across the country sign their names on their National Letter of Intent to go onto the collegiate level and continue their athletic career. Yesterday, two of our very own Santaluces High School football players signed their National Letters of Intent to continue their football careers.
Three-star cornerback Caden Gordon signed his letter of intent to continue his football career at NC State. Caden has been verbally committed to NC State since the summer and has stayed loyal to the Wolfpack even while other big time schools tried to flip his commitment hours before signing. When asked about sticking with NC State, Caden responded saying, “What led me to stick with them was because they were very honest and upfront about everything that they have going on with their program. They have a stable coaching staff which was the biggest thing I was looking for along with a place I can go spend 4 years and work hard and get ready for the ultimate goal which is the NFL.” Caden is ranked in the top 100 among cornerbacks across the country and in his senior season he was able to come up with two interceptions, only allowing one touchdown all season.
The second signee is 3-star wide receiver Jamar Browder. Jamar signed his National Letter of Intent to continue his football career at the University of Michigan. Browder was verbally committed to NC State alongside Caden in the summer, but flipped his commitment to Michigan who offered him a full athletic scholarship in September. Other than NC State and Michigan, Jamar had over 30 offers from various division 1 schools, but chose the University of Michigan, who are the defending national champions. When asked about his decision to flipping his commitment from NC State to Michigan, Jamar stated, “I felt that Michigan was a bigger stage, a bigger atmosphere. I feel that I perform better in front of bigger crowds and a bigger stage along with becoming an impact player fast.” In his senior season, Jamar hauled in 50 receptions for 1,137 yards along with scoring 12 touchdowns.
Personally, I have known both Caden and Jamar since we were in elementary school and seeing how they have both grown over the years has been truly special. From playing 2 hand touch football at recess in elementary school and playing little league football and basketball together, to now seeing both of them continue into the next chapter of their lives has truly been amazing. I consider both of them as brothers that come from different mothers and I wish both of them the best of luck and expect nothing but greatness from both of them.
Everyone here in Chief country is looking forward to seeing both of these talented athletes make their college game-day debuts.
