A guilty pleasure is something you do behind closed doors, in the dark, with an alibi at hand in case you’re questioned. The Kardashians used to be my guilty pleasure. I’d watch their shows whenever I knew my family wouldn’t be around. I’d laugh and cry and occasionally find myself choosing sides whenever there was a fight in the family, but as soon as I’d hear a door knob turning or a creak on the stairs, I’d switch the channel to something less conspicuous. I was living a lie. Then came the day when I realized I couldn’t keep stifling my obsession. I had to embrace it. That’s when I dropped the “guilty” off of my pleasure.
I just love the Kardashians.
“What do they even do?,” “why waste your time to watch them? Do you have nothing better to do?” Those are the responses I usually get when expressing my love for the family. What they do is simple. They have their own empire, which they themselves built. They have about a dozen companies ranging from clothing to makeup, each member of the family having his or her own endeavor. They have one of the most-watched shows, and even spin-offs that are more watched than shows on NBC. Now to why I waste my time, it’s simple. I can like whatever I want. Just like anyone can, and until you’re willing to stop liking all the things you like or until you suddenly become perfect, don’t say anything.
The Kardashians are also a great family. They’re open with each other, they’re hilarious and they genuinely enjoy each others company, even when they’re fighting. I wish I had a family like theirs. Deep down I bet everyone wishes their family was like that. The Kardashians are real, and they make no excuses for it. They’re successful, which is probably why so many criticize them. I love them all. Kris, Bruce, Kourtney, Kim, Khloe, Rob, Kendall, Kylie and even the step siblings Burt, Casey, Brandon, and Brody.
And I’m not ashamed.
