IT Chapter Two is the terrifying and long awaited sequel to IT (2017.) Starring Bill Hader, Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, Jay Ryan, Andy Bean, Isaiah Mustafa and James Ransone as the grown-up children of Derry, IT Chapter Two offers moviegoers a satisfying ending to the two-part movie series. The scares, and Hader’s occasional comic relief, make IT Chapter Two a must-see sequel this Halloween season.
Bill Skarsgård returns in his terrifying role as Pennywise. The first installment of IT left viewers with many questions about Pennywise. The main question being, where did Pennywise come from? This question is explained in IT Chapter Two along with a few others. Viewers also get a look into the lives of the Losers in the year 2016. Jaeden Martell, Wyatt Oleff, Jack Grazer, Finn Wolfhard, Sophia Lillis, Chosen Jacobs, and Jeremy Taylor play the original Losers club members in the first film. These beloved characters are now seen in their adulthood, however, the amazing casting in IT Chapter Two allows viewers to really believe that the past and present Losers are the same characters. If you are a fan of the first IT movie, seeing IT Chapter Two will offer the satisfying ending that the first movie lacked.
Most standout moments from IT Chapter Two come from the incredible performances of Bill Hader and James Ransone. Playing the older versions of Richie and Eddie, Hader and Ransone capture the same light-hearted and hilarious relationship of the original Richie and Eddie. Many viewers of IT noted one of the best parts of the movie being Richie and Eddie’s relationship, so, hopes were high for what came next. IT Chapter Two will not disappoint in this category. Hader and Ransone offer the much needed comic relief in between the jump scares and clown-fighting.
IT Chapter Two currently holds a 62% on Rotten Tomatoes. Compare this to the first installment of IT, maintaining an 82%. Although IT Chapter Two is much more frightening than its predecessor, the child actors in IT steal the show. Although viewers see flashbacks of the kids, the same effect is not captured in the second chapter. This, of course, does not discredit the sequel as a great movie in its own right. IT Chapter Two remains necessary for viewers of this cinematic universe for a proper completion of the story. IT Chapter Two falls short of the first installment, however, provides better scares and completes the iconic story of Pennywise and the children of Derry.
