On November 17th, a new dystopian Hunger Games movie titled, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, was released for all fanatics to see! This new movie is a prequel to the already existing movies, The Hunger Games trilogy, that follows Katniss Everdeen and her adventure to the Capitol. President Coriolanus Snow of Panem is a big part of the original trilogy and with this prequel, we get to learn more about his disturbing childhood.
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, written by Suzanne Collins was released on May 19, 2020. This amazing story is set 64 years before the original Hunger Games trilogy. It shows a heartbreaking love story between 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow and the 10th annual Hunger Games District 12 tribute, Lucy Gray Baird. Lucy, coming from a large band called the Covey, is reaped to fight in the 10th annual Hunger Games, the first to ever be broadcast. This new system to try and punish the remaining districts for the rebellion, caused by the destroyed District 13, is still fairly new and Panem is still trying to figure out how to control it. When the first team of mentors, who will help train and prepare the tributes for their fight, are assigned their tributes, Coriolanus Snow is tasked to mentor Lucy Gray Baird. Their story is complex and exciting, falling in love knowing that she could die, and defying the Capitol. It’s a story you truly can’t miss.
Luckily for new fans, this movie does not require you to watch any of the pre-existing movies. It may help to understand how the Hunger Games work but you can infer that while watching the new movie. It features Tom Blyth as Coriolanus Snow, and Rachel Zegler as Lucy Gray Baird, the movie also features other big names like Viola Davis and Hunter Schafer. This new movie will not leave you disappointed, so make sure to check it out!
