This Saturday, I had the chance to go to the annual Fiesta de Pueblo! Every year, Hispanic communities around South Florida come together for the celebration. Hispanic cultures are showcased through parades, games, performances, food, arts, and live entertainment. People from all backgrounds are able to attend and celebrate through the exchange of traditions!
My family and I arrived at the festival shortly after it started, so we were able to see the majority of the entertainment that took place. We saw participants from countries ranging from Brazil to Peru do beautiful cultural dances and performances, and I loved it. There were bands, dancers, and many other exciting activities. They also had countless vendors selling cultural merchandise and food.
This was a Bomba performance done by a group of teens and adults. Bomba is a Puerto Rican dance that showcases Puerto Rico’s rich Afro-Puerto Rican history.
There also was a group of Pleneros that walked around the park. Pleneros are groups of people that play the music style of Plena, which is an old Puerto Rican style of music that is known for telling a story within the song. It was influenced by Bomba, and is typically seen more during the Christmas season.
I was super excited when they began showcasing Capoeira for Brazil, so I had to get a video!
After the Capoeira, Samba dancers came on stage and left everyone in awe!
During the event I talked to some people who have been going for years, and I got to fully understand how impactful this celebration is This event not only brings the Latin community together, but it gives other people a chance to witness and understand our culture. I have never felt more proud to be a Latina, and I plan on attending this event annually for years to come!
