Mayweather To Fight Pacquiao

Alan McGonigle, Sports Writer

After many years of fans wanting what could possibly be the greatest boxing bout’ in history, it is finally happening. Floyd “Money” Mayweather will fight Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on may 2nd.

The rumors for the fight started to swirl as far back as 2009, when Mayweather and Pacquiao both expressed interest  in a possible fight. Eventually, negotiations broke down when Mayweather requested that Pacquiao would be drug-tested through blood and urine tests. Thus, causing all of the negotiations to end.

Now, after five years of fighting possibly every single opponent besides each other,  the two parties made it official over the weekend. Mayweather is willing to put his undefeated record at 47-0-0 on the line for this fight, while Pacquiao is coming in at a record of 57-5-2.

This fight will easily break all Pay-Per-View records and is projected to beat the Oscar De La Hoya V. Floyd Mayweather Pay-Per-View buy record of 2.4 million viewers. Also, it is the first time since 2002 in which Showtime Sports and HBO Sports have agreed to both show the fight and advertise it.

Overall, this fight will be a fight that could make or break the fighters’ respective careers and it is  one to keep your eye on. For both fighters, this fight will arguably be the most important fight that they have ever been in. I personally feel that Mayweather will come out with the win, but Manny will give Floyd a run for his money.
