Chiefs Jump Off the Plank Against Pirates

Alan McGonigle, Sports Editor

The first football game of the season is a big occasion in Chief town, but it did not go as planned.

The boys in red faced off against the Palm Bay Pirates on Thursday night. Many of students, teachers, and players were excited after a drought of football over the summer. Palm Bay is a hot team who was coming off a successful 7-2 season while the Chiefs came in after a rough 2-8 season.

In the first quarter, the Pirates came full speed, recording a touchdown and also intercepting Senior QB Patrick Mayes. Later in the first, star linebacker Zach McCloud was taken out due to an apparent injury. This did not stop him from coming back in the second half.

The second quarter was not much better. Palm Bay recorded two more touchdowns to put them up 20-0 right before the half.

In the second half, Palm Bay came out ready to play and dropped 14 more points against the Chiefs. It’s only the first game of the season. Lets hope the Chiefs come back strong in the next game against Vero Beach.

Final Score

Chiefs: 0

Pirates: 34
