Once again the series is back with a second addition, staring track athlete Jon Ganiev where we will get insight from his student life, athlete life, home life, and how he balances it all out. If you haven’t, check out the first article here.
The Interview
Jon Ganiev is a junior here at Santaluces high, he runs for the school track team. I began the interview with a simple question. Why this sport and what keeps you motivated to continue in it?
He says “Honestly in middle school when people beat me in races it got me mad and it just pushes me harder to get better which leads me to doing track”. What keeps him motivated is “to always be better”, stating that “nobody can be better than me or else all my training was for nothing”.
Next I ask “What are your goals for the sport”, he declares “To be the fastest man on the planet and to be known”. So then I asked him “How will you achieve your goal?”, he told me ” I run 3 miles a day, eat healthy, do weight lifting, and get good sleep”. So I asked him “Besides the training, what else do you do on the daily?”, he named a variety of sports that he apparently plays for fun “Basketball, Soccer, and Football”.
You can conclude that this is a very busy life even when sleeping early, so I asked “How do you balance this life with school?”. He says “I know how to keep a good schedule, I’m very disciplined so I don’t procrastinate”. He includes that right after school he does his training so he doesn’t waste any time.
Finally I ask “Do you have any advice for people that wanna do what you do?” He says “Don’t be afraid to start, but when you do stay true to yourself, stay humble, and when you’re in the big moment, just shine”.
