Relay For Life: The War Against Cancer

Cancer. It’s a disease that deals with irregular cell growth that’s usually fatal. Although cancer is fatal, there are treatments that are funded by events like the upcoming event which is known as “Relay For Life.”

Relay for Life is a 12 hour cancer-walk event which consists of teams running to gain money for cancer treatments. Each team can also sell merchandise to raise money for cancer treatments as well. Relay for Life was founded in 1985 when a surgeon named Dr. Gordon Klatt decided to raise money for the “American Cancer Society.”

Santaluces’ team is called Team Candy Leader, which is led by Mr. Badome, Mrs. Weber, and Ms. Ardner. Team Candy Leader has been attending Relay for Life for 5 years, trying to fight cancer at their best.

“We’re all very excited to join together to fight cancer,” said Ms. Ardner. “We’ve already raised $1,000 and have over 50 team members contributing to the fight.”

The Relay for Life will be held this Friday at 7 p.m. to Saturday 7 a.m. at FAU’s track and field.
