Every year, Santaluces High School hosts a blood drive with One Blood where students can get blood drawn for people in need in exchange for community service hours. During the blood drive, I went around interviewing a couple students after getting their blood drawn to see if there was anyone that was doing it for a deeper meaning instead of just getting their community service hours.
One student said “I have the blood so if someone else needs it, donating some blood won’t kill me. I’ll get the blood back and it’s useful to help someone else.” Another student stated “I’ve already donated blood two times before this and I like how they give us the option to give them our contact information for them to send us messages on where your blood went, like if it was successfully transferred to someone with a blood transfusion or something, and it motivated me to keep donating.”
These students answers are inspirational and show that you’re not only benefiting yourself by getting community service hours. You are also benefiting others and helping those in need.
