Twenty years after the dreaded terrorist attack that took place on September 11, 2001, the Biden Administration has declassified an FBI report showing some Saudi connections to that day.
This document shows a relationship between two Saudi nationals – including one diplomat – and the hijackers. Even though the 2004 9/11 Commission stated that they couldn’t find any Saudi interference, this operation ENCORE report says otherwise.
The report does not show a lot, but it does describe connections and phone calls, including a meeting between Omar al-Bayoumi, a Saudi government employee, and some of the hijackers.
Saudi officials have stated that no evidence has ever emerged showing that the Saudi government knew about this terrorist attack beforehand, nor that they were involved in it.
Regardless, families of the victims have stated that they’ve waited years for this report to be released to the public.
“This document, together with the public evidence gathered to date, provides a blueprint for how al-Qaida operated inside the U.S.,” Jim Kreindler, a lawyer who represents many of the victims’ families suing the Saudi government states. “with the active, knowing support of the Saudi government.”
