I already know there’s going to be a lot of controversy on this topic, but I feel this needs to be said. Pepperoni is just, honestly, not good at all, and it never will taste good. In my books, it’s really in the Top 5 Useless and Disgusting Meats, along with bologna and bacon. Those meats just genuinely don’t need to be eaten or put with other foods. Overall, they’re really unnecessary, but let’s focus on nasty pepperoni.
For starters, it is always greasy, like always greasy, and, not only is grease terrible for you, it also has a nasty taste. You can just taste the high cholesterol and the sodium with its constant release of oil. It’s just a low-quality topping that overwhelms the amazing taste of pizza and masking the taste of the cheese and tomato sauce. And don’t get me started on its pungent smell. The fumes fill up the room and smell so processed and fermented. Plus, when it’s crunchy and burnt, it honestly doesn’t even taste like anything just some crunchy item that happens to be edible. In my opinion, pepperoni doesn’t even taste like it should be edible with its rubbery texture. Meat should have juices and flavor not oil and crunchiness.
Aside from pepperoni having an extremely unpleasant taste, it is also not good for you at all, like not even a little bit. It is highly processed with sodium of 400 to 500 milligrams per slice, 5% of saturated fat in each ounce of the pepperoni, and has high calories, 84% of which are coming from fat. All of this is causing weight gain, high blood pressure, and even increased cardiovascular disease risk. Due to it being so processed, there is a higher risk of colorectal cancer and high cholesterol from the nitrates and preservatives, which also cause vascular stiffness.
Words can’t explain how disgusting pepperoni is. It just won’t ever be tasty in my books, and it shouldn’t be tasty in the books of others either. I personally don’t trust anyone that enjoys pepperoni.
