On February 16th, Mrs. Renzette, Santaluce’s AICE Environmental teacher, brought her students on an adventure at Mounts Botanical Gardens. A botanical garden is an establishment where plant species from around the world are grown and displayed for the public to view and scientific studies. The tour guide described it as “a zoo for plants.”
The trip began with a tour of the gardens, which included many beautiful art installations dispersed in the flora and fauna. Then we came inside for a presentation on the wetlands. After we were given the opportunity to collect samples of insects and classify them, this helped us determine their tolerance to pollution. This is how scientists ensure that bodies of water aren’t being polluted. We relaxed with a delicious pizza lunch and discussed water security and different ways to conserve it. We ended the day with free time to explore the gardens for ourselves!
We hope you enjoy the slideshow of photos from our adventure!
