Last week we had the chance to interview our fellow students about the recent construction by the Welcome Center. However, this week we interviewed Mr. Montoya.
What’s being built?
“A covered awning is being built that will stretch from the Welcome Center towards a single point of entry and a little bit out to the parking lot.”
Why is it being built?
“The reason we’re building it, is for a couple of things. One is for the metal detectors in the morning. It’ll be a covered walkway, so, in case it rains, we are still able to safely get everybody into the school. Secondly, you know,as students, sometimes after school is out and visitors come to the campus, it’s raining. They now have an area to get in and stay dry.”
How is it being funded?
“We’re not paying for it; The district is. I think it’s the penny sales tax.”
How do you think this will benefit students and staff?
“I think it would be a good cover from rain and lightning, a safe area for even after school. Instead of getting wet in the parking lot, we have a cover to stay. Coming on the campus, we have a covered area in case it’s raining.”
Why is it being built now?
“Because time is of an essence, you know, a lot of times contractors and vendors only have certain points and time during the school year. So it’s either now or, since they typically postpone those things, who knows when they’ll be available to build.”
When will it be finished?
“Were hoping it will be finished before we go on Thanksgiving break.”
