Today was the annual powderpuff game for juniors and seniors. Powderpuff is when the upperclassmen girls play flag football, and the upperclassmen boys are the cheerleaders.
Unfortunately, only one senior, SGA President Keishana “Kiki” Louis, showed up to the game. However, it resulted in an automatic win for the juniors! Instead of seniors and juniors versing each other, the juniors—plus Kiki—played against themselves. The team was split into two:
Team Ayana
– Ayana Grigoriou (QB/S)
– Keishana Louis (LB/WS)
– La’Trecia Pickens (R/WS)
– Kaylee Gorostiza (LB/C)
– Daniyah Donalds (RB/R)
– Keyhara Dorrine (CB/WR)
– Catherina Polo (LB/WR)
– Marcella Surrudo (LB/WR)
Team Taylor
– Taylor Hilleman (QB/LB)
– Estrellita Lopez (RB/WR/S)
– Auzna Duclos (LB/WR)
– Eslanny Santos (LB/RB/WR)
– Ashlynn Murtagh (WR/LB)
– Jasmine Joseph (C/LB)
– Kourtney Alexis (CB/WR)
Team Taylor started out on offense and the ball was intercepted on the second down. Daniyah eventually made the first touchdown and the extra point for Team Ayana. Once the ball was turned over, Taylor was able to make the first touchdown for her team, but they didn’t make the extra point.
By then, the game was moving pretty quick and not much time was left. It was Team Ayana’s ball and Daniyah was about to make another touchdown. She crossed the line but was penalized because her flag wasn’t worn properly. They got pushed back 5 yards and Ayana made the second touchdown for her team.
Extra points were no longer allowed to be played in the game since there wasn’t enough time. With five minutes left on the clock, Team Taylor tried their best to score another touchdown. They were unsuccessful, leaving Team Ayana with the win.
In the end, Teama Ayana won 13-6. It was an exciting game in such a short amount of time, and the girls had a lot of fun. And at the end of the day, all the juniors still won against the seniors!
