Recently, I had the opportunity to interview David Vega Garcia. He’s a senior here at Santaluces High School and he’s involved all around campus, especially in the sports field; he’s on our boys volley ball team and our boys basketball team. He’s a very fun and outgoing person and enjoys all the sports he plays. Here are some questions I asked him during our Q & A interview:
How do you balance school life, work life, and sports all at once?
“Honestly, balancing all of it isn’t too hard when you prepare ahead of time and set your priorities straight. It all comes down to how bad you want it and keeping your mind clear.”
What does being a good teammate mean to you?
“Being a good teammate means that you honestly just have to keep it real with your teammates and boost them up when they feel down. Encourage them and always be the person on the court that never goes down.”
What do you enjoy most about being a part of the volleyball and basketball team?
“Being a part of these teams has made my high school experience so much more fun because of everything that I do in school, and the training that we do always keeps me in shape and clears my mind. I would definitely say the friends I made from being in the team is what I enjoyed most.”
What are your favorite hobbies outside of school?
“Outside of school, I love going to play basketball at my neighborhood park, and I also watch a lot of anime. Hanging out with friends is my favorite.”
How long have you been playing volleyball and basketball?
“I’ve been playing high school basketball and volleyball for three years, but I’ve played basketball throughout my childhood as well. I only recently started playing volleyball in 8th grade; I loved every part of it.”
What motivates you to push yourself?
“What motivates me is the fun I have playing these sports. And I’m always thriving to get better, it’s something that I’m passionate about. Also I wanna be a good example for the rest of my teammates, so I try to push myself as hard as I can.”
What’s one thing you’d say to those who are interested in playing sports?
“I would say to just do it, because from my experience it’s amazing, and you won’t regret it. As long as you really keep your mind free of distractions and bad things, you will have the time of your life playing. And confidence is a big thing when it comes to sports. You can NOT be scared or embarrassed to do anything, just live your life.”
What are your plans after graduating school?
“I want to take the time I have before college to get a job and stack some money up, I also plan on playing club volleyball at the Wellington Sports Academy while studying to be an accountant at Palm Beach State College. I plan on moving to a university after two years.”
