I had the opportunity to speak with Zion Burney, a senior at Santaluces High School who is enrolled in the school’s medical program. Zion is currently taking pharmacy-related classes, which have helped shape her interest in healthcare as she prepares for life after graduation.
What grade are you currently in and what are your plans for after high school?
I am currently in the 12th grade and I plan to attend college after high school to pursue a career in nursing. My goal is to begin as a registered nurse (RN) and continue my education to eventually become a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA). I am passionate about healthcare and helping others, which is why I chose this career path.
Where do you see yourself in the future, career-wise and/or in life in general?
In the future, I see myself working as a CRNA and living a successful life. I hope to be financially stable, travel often, and own a big house. I also see myself raising one child and building a loving family while enjoying the life I worked hard to create.
What has it been like balancing school and work?
Balancing school and work has been fairly easy for me. I currently take two in-person classes and one online class through FLVS, which allows me to manage my time well. Having a flexible schedule helps me stay organized and focused while still keeping up with my schoolwork .
How would you describe yourself?
I would describe myself as funny, sweet, smart, generous, kind-hearted, and authentic. I try to stay true to who I am while being positive and supportive toward others.
What is a fun fact about you that you would like people to know?
A fun fact about me is that I enjoy going to church and praising. My faith is important to me and plays a big role in keeping me grounded and motivated.
