Hollywood is always on the move to make money, whether it’s sequels, prequels, or even remakes. Yes, in case you didn’t know, Ben Affleck, who has been seen in Mallrats, Argo, and The Town, has been chosen to be in the Man of Steel sequel as the billionaire crime fighter, Batman.
While there are many happy Affleck fans jumping with joy, there are the threads of complaints and angry comic book readers who hate this decision from Warner Brothers with a passion.
“He doesn’t seem like he fits the character,” said junior Raheem Thomas. “Personally I’d like to see someone like Bradley Cooper [play the role].”
Before the announcement of Affleck becoming the rebooted Dark Knight of the DC Cinematic Universe, comic book lovers, Internet pages, and even cinematic cravers have been geeking out about who the next Batman should be. There were even rumors that the well-known Christian Bale, known for being in The Dark Knight trilogy, was going to reprise his role as Batman. However, according to Bale, he’s not interested in playing the character anymore. There are even rumors of Bale passing up a 50 million dollar offer.
As the announcement from Warner Bros. finally sprung out on the web, controversy stormed the Internet with rants, petitions, and even death threats. Celebrities such as Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, and even Joss Whedon, who directed The Avengers, believes in Affleck saying “he’ll crush it!”
But what really matters is what the fans think about this, for they are the ones who are going to spend their money. Although most fans are on opposite ends – either hating the choice or loving it – others are conflicted.
“I don’t know how to feel,” said senior Christopher Barrett. “There’s been so many depictions that, after Christopher Nolan’s trilogy, I feel that Batman in movies are kind of done.”
The Man of Steel sequel will feature an older Batman and a new Superman. Filming will begin in early 2014 and the movie will release summer 2015.
