The Golden Globes became a precursor to how much Hollywood and the Academy Awards would love “La La Land” after it won seven Golden Globe nominations. The answer was apparent Tuesday when the modern-day musical received 14 nominations. Runner-ups for most nominated were the coming of age story, “Moonlight” and the Sci-Fi film”Arrival”, both receiving eight nominations.
Best actor nominations were given to Casey Affleck, Andrew Garfield, Ryan Gosling, Viggo Mortensen, and Denzel Washington. For best actress: Isabelle Huppert, Ruth Negga, Natalie Portman, Emma Stone, and Meryl Streep are competing to win the award.
After receiving criticism last year for being too white and not being diverse at all, this year seems to be the most diverse yet. Viola Davis becomes the first black woman nominated for three Oscars. And there is a minority candidate in nearly every acting category. Jimmy Kimmel is set to host the most-anticipated night in movies and is due to be compared to his late-night show counterpart, Jimmy Fallon, who hosted the Golden Globes.
