Nickelodeon has ordered a new spin-off series for Patrick Star, Spongebob’s best friend on the popular show Spongebob Squarepants.

Spongebob Squarepants first aired in 1999, introducing a happy and eccentric yellow sponge who lives in a pineapple under the sea and works as a fry cook at the Krusty Krab.

The first episode “Help Wanted”, quickly became a hit among Nickelodeon fans as they watched Spongebob get a job by making thousands of Krabby Patties for hungry anchovies (all while annoying Squidward of course).

His best friend Patrick Star also appeared in the same episode. Patrick’s foolish antics and quirky actions also caught the attention of many and has become a fan-favorite over the years.

The photo, posted on the Instagram account @officialpatrickstar, features Patrick wearing purple shorts and a green shirt with flowers. Surrounding him are presumably members of his family: a light teal starfish, a bright pink starfish, a young purple squid, and an older starfish.

The show will focus on Patrick hosting his own TV show while living with his family.

The series will be aired in Summer 2021.
