The latest movie I’ve watched was Caught Stealing, and honestly, I thought it was really good. The story takes place in New York City during the 1990s, and it follows Hank Thompson, a high school baseball star that kind of messed up his life. Things get crazy when his neighbor asks him to take care of a cat, and from there, he gets pulled into this whole fiasco with stolen drug money, Russian mobsters, and even a detective chasing him. It starts small, but it keeps building until you realize Hank is way in over his head.
What I liked most about the movie was how real it felt. Austin Butler, who plays Hank, really sold the character. You could see his stress and guilt, but also how badly he just wanted a normal life again. The setting made the whole thing even better, since it was during the 90s in New York, which gave off this edgy vibe that made the action scenes more intense. Some parts shocked me, and other times I was just waiting to see what crazy thing would happen next.
The only thing I’d say that wasn’t as great is that sometimes the plot felt a little predictable. If you watch crime thrillers often, you might already guess some of the twists before they happen. Also, some of the side characters didn’t feel as developed, so I didn’t really care about them as much. Overall, though, it didn’t ruin the experience for me.
In the end, I’d definitely recommend Caught Stealing; it’s entertaining and suspenseful. Even though it’s not a perfect movie, I think it’s worth watching, and I’d give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
