Growing up I’ve always found The Addams Family movies, both the animated and live action ones, funny and interesting. So, when I found out about the show Wednesday coming out back in 2022, I was so eager to watch it; I finished it in 4 days! Unfortunately, it ended with the biggest cliffhanger, and I’ve been waiting for the new season to come out ever since. Now that it’s out, I made sure to watch it right away to see if it’s worth all the hype.
In the beginning, Wednesday is back at Nevermore for another year, and this time with her younger brother, Pugsley. There are many other new students as well, like Agnes who has the power of invisibility. The more you watch, the more bad things begin to happen. Wednesday loses her psychic ability and her ancestor book that was supposed to help her gain her ability back. And while she’s on this mission of trying to regain her powers, she also has to make sure her premonition of her roommate, Enid, dying doesn’t come true. She was even put into a coma after risking her own life trying to escape Willow Hill, an asylum for outcasts that her Uncle Fester was admitted to!
Fast forward a bit and Pugsley has brought a zombie to life as his new friend since he was struggling to make any at school. However, the zombie begins eating people’s brains to help him come back to life and be human again. So, Pugsley’s supposed “friend” is actually a villain in this story. Sooner or later, Wednesday eventually breaks out of the mental hospital and also saves a sad, innocent lady by the name of Franciose escape too. Little did she know Franciose is a hyde and is the mother of Tyler from Season 1. One of the craziest parts to me is that the zombie ends up being the brother of Fransciose! He eventually turns fully human from all the brains he’s eaten and turns out to be Isaac Night, a mad scientist who went to Nevermore.
Isaac Night was actually the best friend of Gomez Addams, Wednesday and Pugsley’s dad. Back then, Gomez and Isaac were roommates at Nevermore, and Gomez offered to help Isaac by using his electric powers so that Franciose could free herself from being a Hyde. But Isaac had bad intentions and was actually willing to let Gomez die in the process; anything to save his sister. Once Morticia Addams (wife and mother to the Addams family) found out, she sabotaged the whole thing, causing the experiment to explode and kill Isaac in the process.
The even more mind blowing part of this story is that Thing, a hand that has been a part of the Addams family forever and is Wednesday’s sidekick, is actually the hand that blew off of Isaac’s body during the experiment! Mind you, Thing acts nothing like Isaac; he has no ill intentions and is the most helpful for someone who isn’t even attached to the rest of its body. So, when he finds out he is actually a part of Isaac, the man that almost killed Gomez, it was shocking and sad to hear.
Wednesday’s premonition changes to an Addams dying instead of Enid. She finds out that Pugsley was the one to die after he went missing. At first they didn’t know what happened to him, but then they realized Isaac kidnapped him so that his powers could be used to successfully complete the experiment for Franciose. As Wednesday tries to solve these issues, Thing and Isaac are reunited and sewn together, allowing Issac to gain his powers back by making things levitate and move. Isaac also buries Wednesday alive to stop her from trying to save the day. Agnes was secretly there the whole time and tries to save her by telling Enid. Enid decides the only way she can help is if she wolfs out to dig up Wednesday. However, earlier in the show Enid discovers she’s an alpha, and if she wolfs out during a full moon she’ll never be able to switch back to a human. By wolfing out to save Wednesday, she permanently turns into a wolf forever since the full moon was that night.
In the end, Franciose dies after falling from the roof mid fight with her son, Tyler. The premonition was erased, and Thing regains control of himself and kills Isaac in a fight despite being sewn to his arm. Capri, the music teacher, introduces Tyler to a hyde community so he can live independently without a master. She wants to help him because her father was a hyde. Nevermore shuts down and the students had to pack their things and leave. When Wednesday leaves, she decides to go on a road trip with her Uncle Fester to help find and save Enid now that she’s a lone wolf. But as she’s on the way, she opens the gift her mom gave her of Aunt Ophelia’s journal, the aunt she was always curious about what happened to her. This caused Wednesday to have a vision of her aunt alive somewhere in a basement. Right after this vision, the audience gets left on the cliffhanger of Wednesday’s Grandmama going to a secret basement where Aunt Ophelia was. She was writing “Wednesday must die” in blood…
If I were to rate this season, I would give it a 10/10. There were so many plot twists that answered so many questions from Season 1. I overall really enjoyed this show. It had me laughing and gasping every 5 minutes; I was obsessed. I really recommend everyone to watch. However, I suggest watching the movies first so you understand why the family is so unusual and what makes it all come together.
