- I recently watched “One Battle After Another,” and it was honestly pretty interesting. The movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Bob Ferguson, a father who suddenly has to raise his daughter on his own after his wife dies in a car accident. That moment happens early in the movie, and it’s what changes everything for him. Years later, some people from his past come back and stir up old problems, forcing him to face mistakes and decisions he’s been avoiding. While he’s dealing with all that, he’s also trying to stay close to his daughter, who’s growing up and starting to see how broken things really are around them.
One major scene that happened was when Bob and his team go on a mission to rescue trapped soldiers. Everything seems fine at first, but then they’re suddenly ambushed. There’s gunfire and explosions everywhere, and everyone starts panicking. During the fight, Bob’s best friend, Mark, gets shot and falls to the ground. Even though it’s really dangerous, Bob runs back to help him. He lifts Mark and tries to carry him out of the battlefield while bullets are flying around them. Bob finally makes it to safety, but Mark is badly hurt and dies soon after. Bob is devastated and feels like he failed his best friend. After that moment, he isn’t the same person anymore. He becomes quieter, more serious, and starts questioning why they’re even fighting. That scene shows how much the war changes him and how losing someone close leaves a deep impact on him for the rest of the movie.
What I liked most was how real and emotional the acting was. DiCaprio did a great job showing what it’s like to be a parent who’s trying his best but doesn’t always get it right, presenting both his love and his mistakes. The movie also features some humorous moments, which are interspersed with the more serious ones, making it easier to watch without feeling too heavy. Another thing I liked was how well the father-daughter relationship was portrayed. The bond between Bob and his daughter felt very real, and it gave the movie its heart. Their scenes together made the story more emotional and showed why Bob kept fighting through all the challenges.
Something I didn’t really like was that the middle of the movie was kind of slow. It felt like it dragged on before things got intense again. Also, there were several different themes, like family, identity, and even politics. So, sometimes it was a little confusing. In addition, the ending felt a little rushed, like everything wrapped up too quickly compared to how slow the middle was. After so much build-up, everything seemed to approach the end really fast. I also wish they had taken more time to explain what happened to the side characters instead of just focusing on Bob.
Overall, I think “One Battle After Another” is a touching and dramatic movie about family, loss, and learning to move forward. It’s not super fast-paced, but it really makes you feel for the characters. I rate it a 7/10.
