If you were to ask most people what the best rom-com is, they’d probably say 10 Things I Hate About You, The Notebook, The Perfect Date, and some other stereotypical answer. However, I’m here to tell you that the best rom-com movie is “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” which aired in 2003. The dynamic of this movie is just so amazing to me! You can feel the laughter and the romance through the screen. Personally, I feel like it’s the exact definition of a rom-com movie. Andie Anderson, a journalist who comes up with an article called “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” and Ben Barry, who makes a bet with his coworkers that he can make any woman fall in love with him. Surprisingly, they both end up meeting at the same place where they became each other’s target.
Throughout the movie, Andie does hilarious things to push Ben away, yet he stays only because of the bet. In the beginning, the movie leans heavily into comedy. The romance side doesn’t truly appear until they visit Ben’s family, where they start opening up to each other, especially during the bathroom scene. Toward the end they both discover each other’s intentions, leading to a big argument. Like any great rom com movie, they make up and end up together: boom, that’s the end.
I know it may sound like a typical rom-com, but it really isn’t. The way the directors brought this movie to life is simply chef’s kiss!
