At Santaluces High School, the cheerleaders bring energy to every game, but there’s a lot more that goes on behind the scenes. Between practices, schoolwork, and building close friendships, the team works hard to keep the spirit alive.
Sophomore Taylor Probst makes sure she stays on top of her responsibilities. “I have set times for my work that I have to do no matter what so that I always get my work done,” she said. With practices on Mondays and Thursdays, games on Fridays, and even weightlifting, her schedule stays full.
For Sophomore Yonalis Molina, cheer takes just as much dedication. On top of school cheer practices, she also trains with an all-star cheer team. “I make sure I’m doing all my work and doing what I need to do,” she explained.

Both Taylor and Yonalis say the best part of cheer is the way the team supports one another. Whether it’s stunts, tumbling, or solos, the cheerleaders are always encouraging each other. “It is a very sisterhood-like team,” Taylor said. Yonalis added, “We make sure we are there for each other.”
Looking ahead, both have leadership goals. Taylor hopes to be a team leader by her senior year, while Yonalis has her eyes on becoming captain. But what they both value most are the friendships they’ve built along the way. “The most rewarding part is being able to do stuff with girls you’re close with and make new friends,” Yonalis said.
Behind the chants and routines, the Santaluces cheer team is about more than just spirit. It’s about teamwork, dedication, and friendships that last.
