The George Snow Scholarship Fund applications are now available. The George Snow Scholarship has a mission to aid hardworking students to graduate from college through the help of financial aid and additional services. They believe that no student should lack education because of their economic status or lack of support. The fund was created in 1982 as a tribute to George Snow after his death in a helicopter accident. During his life, Snow believed in the importance of education and always had a passion to help those trying to better themselves in life.
Since 1982, $12,161,415.09 has been awarded to hundreds of students. In 2019 alone, they donated over $1,400,000 to students headed off to college. Out of the 1,060 submitted applications, 286 were chosen for an interview, and 150 students were awarded. Although the amount awarded varies, in 2019, the average cost of the award was $12,500.
The scholarship can be accessed through scholarship.org and you must click on the “Apply Now” button. The application has three components: academics, extracurriculars, services, and awards, areas of study, and family, tax, and financial information. Two essays are also required. If any information is incomplete, the application will automatically be rejected. To be eligible for the scholarship, students MUST complete FAFSA. If a student is selected for an interview, they must provide a copy of their high school transcripts and the Tax Returns used for the financial information section.
The online application is due February 1, 2020 at 5 p.m. It is advised that students submit their application before the due date to have enough time to review it. For any questions, students can contact the following:
