JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure or “JJBA” (also known as JoJo no kimyou na bouken in romanized Japanese), is a manga/anime series created by the mangaka (manga artist) Hirohiko Araki containing a total of nine parts that began in 1987.
The series tells of Jonathan “JoJo” Joestar’s adventures upon his gaining of the energy-based power known as Hamon and the abrupt end of his life at the hands of nemesis Dio Brando, who will go on to be a force to be reckoned with for a majority of his bloodline across over a century up until his descendent and part 3’s protagonist, Japan’s Jotaro “JoJo” Kujo ends up defeating him.
To date, only six of the nine parts have been animated and released, with the 6th season “Stone Ocean” having concluded in December 2022 after being released in 3-part increments on Netflix. This arc is also the only one of its kind where the protagonist is female, with the heroine in question being Jotaro’s teenage daughter Jolyne Kujo. However, the timeline post-Stone Ocean ends up resetting itself after antagonist Enrico Pucci uses his Stand (a manifestation of one’s soul endowed with supernatural abilities) “Made In Heaven” to do so, bring us into the new universe in which part 7 “Steel Ball Run” and part 8 “JoJolion” reside.
Now joining in as the 9th and final installment of the decades-old franchise, we have JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: “The JOJOlands,” with the manga set to release February 17th of this year in popular manga publication “Ultra Jump.”
At the moment of this article’s creation, it is said that the protagonist will be another male character (to the slight disappointment of yours truly), and a particular headshot sketch for the manga seems to confirm this as well. This last member of the Joestar clan is also said to be a descendant of part two’s Joseph Joestar and made a brief appearance in the last chapter of part 8’s manga.
Not much is really known about the character aside from this, but it is known that the setting is expected to be in an unknown collective of subtropical islands, and our newest JoJo will supposedly end up becoming rich thanks to said islands.
I don’t have many expectations for the series but I’m excited to see how Araki goes about closing out the final part of the manga series and hopefully parts 7 and 8 will go into the animation phases soon so we can see it on screen. Feel free to comment below all your predictions!
UPDATE: JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: “The JOJOlands” is now released! The new protagonist has been revealed as 15-year-old Jodio Joestar, grandson of Joseph Joestar and Suzi Q, and the first chapter of the series is from his perspective with his own narration. The English translation hasn’t been released in Ultra Jump as of yet.
