Chiefs volleyball started off strong with the first serve of the season by senior Alexia Mandoeng resulting in a point for the home team. With both the Dreyfoos crowd and Santaluces crowd erupting, the game was neck and neck when a seemingly forever volley was put to an end by Francesca Dulysse the moment she burried the return to the back left corner. Senior Julianna Miranda followed up with an ace of her own to tie it up at 11.
Unfortunately, the efforts were not enough to come out victorious as the Chiefs dropped game one 25-21, and game two 25-14.
However, once senior newcomer Emily Eichhorn stepped on the court for her first real match, game three turned out to be an enlightening, yet exciting moment for the Chiefs as she went on to score three points and earned an incredible block at the net. Chiefs went on to win game three 25-16.
“I would say my first game was intense and nerve racking,” said Eichhorn. “I definitely look forward to this season and what it has in store for [us].”
Dreyfoos would go on to win game four 25-19 and the match three games to one, yet the Chiefs remain hopeful. Coach Natalie noted that the young team could use a confidence boost.
“I think the season will be fine as long as everyone plays as a team,” said volleyball fan, Senior Isabel Torres.
The Chiefs hope to ‘bump’ back next week on Tuesday, the 29th against John I. Leonard at home.
