Those who have watched our District Champion Lady Chiefs Basketball team in action won’t be surprised to learn that another of our Lady Chief basketball players has achieved a phenomenal feat. Despite the challenges of Covid and its impact on high school sports, forward Britney Chery garnered an astounding 500 rebounds in her career as a Lady Chief. This week, she was presented with a custom basketball, hand-painted by Ms. Youssef, commemorating her achievement.
Athletic Director Barry Cohen emphasized her strong work ethic, saying, “Britney is one the most dedicated hard working student athletes I have seen in the past five years I have been here. Her work ethic and dedication to the team helped them win the district championship this year.”
Chery, a senior, was always a familiar sight either under the net, or reaching over opponents to ensure her team maintained possession of the ball as often as possible. Demonstrating superior ball handling skills, She was instrumental in the historic 2021-2022 season that took the team into the regional playoffs.
Several of her teammates were on-hand to help celebrate this extraordinary achievement. The team’s leading scorer, Kendra Bentley, showed her appreciation for Chery, saying, “Britney is a strong rebounder. She has a positive attitude no matter the game situation.”
Congratulations Britney!
