The majestic elite dance team is the majorette team here at Santaluces. They participate at every football game, pep rally, and at campus lunch activities. This week, we had the opportunity to interview some of the young women on the team.
Allayah Taylor is a junior here at Santaluces. She joined majorette because she wanted to be more active in her last two years of high school, as well as to continue her passion for dance. She describes the practices as fun and lighthearted, but that they “lock in” and do what they need to do when it is needed. To calm her nerves, she typically does breathing exercises and tries to use the nerves to help her perform.
R’yahna is a senior at Santaluces and a captain of our school dance team. She joined the majorette team so that she could build bonds with people who share her same love for dance. She looks forward to trying out for a dance team in college, using what she has learned from her high school team. The tryout process was stressful, but through practice she built up her confidence and made it a fun challenge.

Nalani Moffett is a junior at Santaluces. When she first came to Santaluces she saw the dance team at a pep rally, and ever since then she adored the way that they performed and knew that she wanted to be a part of the team. Her favorite part of majorette is performing at football games. This is her first year of dance, she has been dancing since August of 2024.
Taneisha is also a junior here at Santaluces. She is one of the captains of the dance team this year. She also is a part of a travel team outside of school. We wanted to know why she started up the majorette team again, and she stated that, “I wanted to start it again because the way we ended wasn’t the way I expected it to.” She says that they prepare for pep rallies by practicing for 2-3 weeks in advance. In the final week before the event, they practice all week cut out parts of the dance that they don’t like.
Our school’s majorette team consists of young women who work very hard day in and day out. Make sure to support them at any next pep rally or event.
