Seniors Grace Almanza, Eliseo Najera, and Deseree Jacques are the first place winners of the Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards.  Jacques won in the drawing and illustration category, while Almanza and Najera won in the portfolio category. These awards recognize teenagers whose work is original and whose art has a voice.

Other winners in this yearly prestige contest are seniors Adison Gonzalez, Christine LaManna and sophomore Francine Rousseau. This year ten students from Santaluces participated in this event said Ms. Ardner.

”I am extremely proud of all the winners and their hard work that was spent on their art, I cannot wait to see them thrive in the future,” said Ms. Ardner.

Almanza, this years Pathfinder nominee in the art category and a fellow SHSTheTribe staff member, has been taking pictures since elementary school. She vividly remembers her first time taking a picture; she was eight years old in Disney world, while she took a picture, the camera fell and broke.

”I feel that all my hard work has paid off and I feel proud,” said Grace Almanza.
