“Moving from the Philippines wasn’t too difficult other than the fact that I had to try and learn English… there was a language barrier. When they taught us English in the Philippines, it was super basic English, like how to just say hello to people. The biggest challenge that I had to deal with when moving to America was trying to make new friends, because I had to move away from all of the ones I had. It was relatively hard to make new friends since I didn’t know English, but some people, I guess, thought it was cute that I didn’t know any or that it was adorable to not be able to speak English. I made my friends and then made friends of friends. In order to face these challenges, I told myself that I can’t compare myself to other people because there will always be someone better than you.”

Hey there, I'm Gillian and I'm a senior here at Santaluces. This is my first year writing for the newspaper. Writing has always been a passion of mine and I'm planning to pursue Journalism as my college major. I'm a part of the tech support team as well, considering I do quite well with computers. I play a forward position on the soccer team too! I'm a very optimistic person, and that is what most people use to describe me. Enjoy my stories!
