As an 11th grader, I know how it feels to not be prepared for this new high school life, so these are a couple tips and tricks from me and your 9th grade guidance counselor, Kristen Harrell.
1. Get Organized Early: Use a planner or digital calendar to keep track of assignments, tests, and extracurricular activities.
2. Check SIS Weekly, and Check Email Daily: Stay updated on your grades, attendance, etc.
3. Build Relationships: Get to know your teachers, counselors, and classmates. Strong connections can support your academic and social success.
4. Stay on Top of Your Work: Don’t procrastinate. Complete assignments on time and ask for help if you’re struggling.
5. Get Involved: Join clubs, sports, or other extracurricular activities to explore interests and make new friends.
6. Understand Graduation Requirements: Know what credits and courses you need to graduate and plan your schedule accordingly.
7. Take Care of Yourself: Prioritize sleep, nutrition, and mental health. Balance schoolwork with downtime. Set aside time in the day to complete your homework and study.
8. Use School Resources: Don’t hesitate to visit your counselor, Behavioral Health Professional, and administrators. Participate in tutoring opportunities.
9. Set Goals: Think about what you want to achieve academically and personally, and create a plan to reach those goals, short and long term.
10. Stay Positive and Flexible: High school can be challenging, but maintaining a positive attitude and being open to change will help you adapt and thrive.
11. Don’t Be Afraid To Ask For Help: High school isn’t easy. Teachers and guidance counselors are there to help, you just have to ask them for it.
12.Find Study Methods: Find tricks that will actually help you remember the information. The more you read and say the information out loud over and over again, the better you’ll remember it
13. Eliminate Distractions: If you know you have homework, don’t stay up watching shows, going to a football game, or binge watching social media.
