Freshman Hecly Hector competed in the 100-meter and 200-meter wheelchair races and placed first in both races. This victory comes off his previous first places finishes at the County Games in both events. He is the first Special Olympics Athlete from Santaluces in the previous 10 years to place first in both of their events at both the County and Area Games.
Hector’s victory qualifies him for the draw to attend the State of Florida Games to be held at Disney’s ESPN World of Sports the second week of May.
“I’d like to congratulate Hecly for his outstanding efforts,” said Mr. Woods. “He has been working diligently with both myself and Mrs. Padgett (through PE) increasing his strength and speed.”
The Games Director for Palm Beach County gave Hector a new nickname.
“We just need to call him ‘lightning’!” he said.

Thank you so much for publishing this article and the accompanying pictures. This was Hecly’s first year competing and he really gave it his all. It’s nice that he can be included in the Santaluces Community and praised for his achievements.
