“Santaluces has become a second home to me since the first day I arrived. Freshman year, the teachers made me feel so much at home; they helped guide me to where I am now. My first period teacher freshman year was Chef Swaye. He helped me realize my passion for the culinary arts. Cutting our first batch of potatoes to make French fries was one of the coolest experiences I’ve ever had. Getting to to use the fryer and making home-made French fries opened up a whole new world for me. Baking cookies and pies and cooking different foods from other countries has made me truly recognize my passion for culinary.”

Karen Garcia, Staff Writer
My name is Karen Garcia and I am a senior. I enjoy writing short stories and crying over amazing movies, especially A Walk to Remember. I am a big fan of reading, my favorite book is The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch. In my spare time, I can be found walking my two Shih Tzus and watching reruns of The 100 on Netflix. My current goal is to major in journalism and to one day publish my own book.
Casey McDuffie, Staff Writer
Hi, I'm Casey McDuffie and I'm a senior this year. Photography and writing have always been an outlet for me to express myself. I was able to go on two trips this summer, to Rhode Island, and to Ensenada, Mexico. The pictures and writing from trips are always my favorite because you get a different experience every time. I also love music, country music being my favorite, and Carrie Underwood is my favorite singer. She hasn't changed into someone she isn't and that is what I aim to do. She always has a story behind her songs, and it just pulls you in. I'm a quiet person, but once you get to know me I'm very nice and I love helping people.
