The girls basketball team improved to 16-9 after a district quarter-finals victory over Spanish River Sharks 60-54. Senior Recilia Nonombre scored 24 points and senior Whitney Wright had 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as the Chiefs got past the Sharks at home.
Offensively, Nonombre excelled, scoring in variety of ways. She was automatic from the field and carried the team to victory. Wright also added 14 pivotal points
Defensively, Wright was the key part of a good Chiefs team. Wright was a strong post presence around the rim and totaled 12 key rebounds. Wright’s contribution held the Sharks to only 54 points.
Freshman Drew Swaters shed light on watching the girl prevail to victory.
“It was very fun to watch,” Swaters said. “The girls were poised, and took care of business.”
The Chiefs will play the Lake Worth Trojans in the district semi-finals at Atlantic High School on Wednesday.
