Creed II is the sequel to the movie Creed and is the eighth installment in the Rocky movie franchise. There’s no need to watch the other seven Rocky movies to understand Creed II, but the other films do give more background knowledge on the characters.
Creed II is predominantly about Adonis “Creed” Johnson (Michael B. Jordan) who is the son of Apollo Creed, a boxing heavyweight champion who died in the ring against Ivan Drago. The movie goes into Adonis having to up hold his title against the son of the man who killed his father during the match, in hopes of avenging his father’s death. Adonis’ father was coached by Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone), who is a heavy weight champion himself, and now coaches Adonis. Rocky guides Adonis throughout the movie and attempts to convince Adonis to back out of the fight due to the past match with Apollo that caused him his life. The film goes into Rocky’s past and family life, or lack there of, to haunt him.
The movie resembles more of a Rocky film than a Creed film but nevertheless, it is a great film that portrays Micheal B. Jordan’s and Sylvester Stallone’s acting skills as the beloved Adonis Creed and Rocky Balboa.
Sylvester Stallone went to Instagram on November 28th, stating that Creed II is his last portrayal of Rocky Balboa. Stallone writes, “Though it breaks my heart, sadly all things must pass.. and end. The most wonderful thing of all is that Rocky will never die because he lives on in you….”
