Anthony Correnti is a student here at Santaluces High School. He is currently a Junior who plays on our school’s wrestling team. Anthony really enjoys wrestling and his teammates, but he also manages to make time for school. Here are some questions I asked him during our interview:
What does being a good teammate mean to you?
“Being a good teammate to me means showing up when it matters (duals, tournaments) to support my team as well as helping others train by being a good partner and sharing knowledge.”
What motivates you to wrestle and push yourself?
“My motivation to wrestle and push myself is rooted in my need to be the best I possibly can so I can prepare myself for my future career in the MMA.”
How do you manage your time between wrestling, schoolwork, and other commitments?
“Managing my time is difficult, especially because my weekends are usually spent at tournaments or duals. I usually have to decide between wrestling or schoolwork, and it’s wrestling every time.”
What do you enjoy most about being part of a wrestling team?
“The most enjoyable part of being on a wrestling team for me is the people. A high school wrestling team forces you to connect with people and bond in ways nobody else can.”
Tell me about your experience with wrestling. How long have you been competing?
“I found wrestling to be a very tough but rewarding sport. This year was my first year doing wrestling, and I went 14-4. It really put into perspective for me the level of competition I would be facing. Wrestling taught me more than any academic class ever could.”
