At Santaluces Community High School, Mrs. Renzette, the AICE environmental teacher, educated her students about the fascinating world of insects.
On February 6th, she invited experts from Mounts Botanical Garden of Palm Beach County to talk about different bugs and how to identify them using a special tool called a Dichotomous Key.
During this session, students got hands-on experience using the Dichotomous key to identify what bugs they were looking at. They even saw real bugs up close, thanks to the guest speakers who brought preserved insects.
Following the guest speakers, Mrs. Renzette is taking some students to the Mounts Botanical Garden next week to apply their knowledge as they explore the gardens’ diverse plants and insects. Many of her students are looking forward to this trip. One student, Liliana Stolberg, said, “The guest speaker lesson was intriguing, and I cannot wait to learn more on the field trip!”
Through these fun and educational experiences, Mrs. Renzette is helping her students learn more about the environment and sparking curiosity about the natural world!
