A finsta is a friends-only Instagram. Set to private, you only let certain people follow it, such as really close friends and those who you want to see the uncensored you. It’s where you put all the photos that are have nothing to do with anything. You make the captions longer and can talk about your problems and rant about anything.

Potential employers or colleges have easy access to anything you post online, so it’s important to keep a professional online profile. Regardless, sometimes it’s fun to use a finsta as a more unfiltered outlet to post anything you want to get off your chest. Since you have the ability to monitor who can see your account, it’s important to only accept follow requests from people you know and trust.

Senior Moises Ruiz-Vega says “I like the whole concept, but I feel like it’s fake in a way. [However,] It’s very smart for the professional aspect”.

I use my finsta to post whatever I want without feeling judged by people I don’t really know well, or people I don’t get along with. I think finstas are one of the greatest things to take social media by storm. It lets people express themselves, which is good for people like me who can’t really do that at home or on other social media platforms. You don’t have to put a mask on or suck in your stomach. It’s the place you can post that double chin picture or all 90 shots of you and your best friend in a row.
