People can be very indecisive when it comes to getting pets. Cleaning up after them and buying their necessities can be a hassle. However, here are some reasons why it’s good to have at least one pet:
1) They Can Be the Highlight of Your Day – We all have our rough days where nothing seems to be going right. Having a cute dog or cat to come home to will make it 1000 times better. In this situation, I would suggest a dog. They’re way more needy than cats. When you get home from a long day at school, your dog’s face will light up the second they see you walk through that door. From my own personal experience, when I get home my dog does what I call “zoomies” where she starts running around excited to see me, and it’s the cutest moment ever.
2) Emotional Support – Sometimes hugging your pet can make all your problems go away. Sometimes your homework can get so stressful and, after that, you just want to relax. Cuddling with your cat or dog, or even playing with your reptile, can help you relax and carry away all the stresses, even if it’s just for a couple minutes.
3) Exercise – Having a dog can actually boost your physical health. Taking them for a walk everyday can help boost your stamina, especially if you have a big dog. Playing tug of war can also help with your energy.
4) Mental Benefits – Having an animal by your side can help you feel better about yourself due to the unconditional love they will always provide to you. They can also give you a sense of purpose having to take care of them everyday. It gives you something to look forward to.
5) Social Enhancement – Pets are very social, and they can create opportunities for you to meet new people and build bonds. This can happen when you’re walking them or taking your dog somewhere. It can spark conversations, like “What food do you feed your dog?” or “How long have you had your dog for?” These conversation starters can help you make friends along the way.
I hope these tips have helped with your decision on whether or not to get a pet for yourself!
