Black Panther is the most highly anticipated movie of 2018 and last night we gazed in jealously at the stars who attended the premiere screening. With the official release date for us regular folk being February 16th, we are still being constrained from seeing this cinematic event; but, at least we have these stunning royal looks to hold us over until then.

The premiere resembled an African royal gathering: Lupita Nyong’o was a captivating Royal Duchess, Michel B. Jordan was the regal Archduke and Angela Bassett evoked the presence of a Sovereign Queen. All the looks had an African influence and brought bold and lively colors to the purple carpet. The stars of the movie turned out looks for days and here are some of my favorites:

Lupita Nyong’o

A beautiful vision of royal purple. The shoulder/ belt piece is amazing and gives off an armor vibe, as if she’s ready to lead the kingdom’s army…in style.

Michel B. Jordan

This is a sold suit with a twist. Love the jeweled details on the collar and shoes and also the off black/ navyish suit color.

Angela Bassett

This yellow fringe jumpsuit is everything and more. I love the built-in Maasai beaded collar necklace which is the prefect touch. The color against her skin makes her look like a trophy and contrasts the purple carpet in the best way.

Janelle Monae

This overall look is stunning. With the contrasting puffer sleeves and the great choices in accessories, mostly the Kufi hat and tribal beaded choker. This looks like something a modern day queen would wear.

Chole X Halle

The singing sisters took a more futuristic approach and they did it well. Both looks are different but coexist and compliment each other perfectly. The dark tone they set was still regal and powerful.

Donald Glover

Childish Gambino (I refuse to call him “Donald Glover”) gets an A for dressing in theme. The orange shade of the suit is electric and I love the embroidered “royal seal” on the jacket.
