Art is such a beautiful thing. It doesn’t have to be one specific thing and almost anything can be considered a form of it. Art can be found every day in activities like dancing, cooking, drawing, singing, photography and so much more. According to the Oxford Dictionary, art is defined as, “The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.” It can have many positive effects on a person, like calming a person down, relieving stress, boosting self esteem and improving overall health.
Art can aid people in improving their skills and interests, and can also help a person find their personal way of expression. When examining art, a person is able to dig deep to understand the real meaning behind it. For example, dance isn’t always just moving someone moving their feet and counting steps in their head, but can be a way of expressing how a person feels. When you show artistic skill in a drawing or painting, you can communicate different ideas and emotions that you may find hard communicating to others when you have conversations or when you write. Art doesn’t have to be uniform, and can be used as a form of expression in all aspects of life.
A friend once told me, “You know what defines art? It’s not perfection or the ability to have it look like what others consider art. Instead, it’s whatever you feel is right for you.”Art is what you want it to be and not what others say it is. Artists who express themselves in various forms in things such as writing or dancing deserve so much more recognition, and through their art can change a person’s life. It is easy to forget about them but they are such an important part of our society.
