I recently had the chance to interview Mirna Milord, a student here at Santaluces, to learn more about herself and her experience at our school.
What’s your name, and what grade are you in?
“My name is Mirna, and I am a Junior.”
What do you like best about Santaluces?
“What I like best about Santaluces? I would say the culture and the teachers, in terms of education. For the culture, it’s like the spirit weeks and all the events, there is a certain ambiance and atmosphere among the students that’s unifying. And then the teachers, they’re kind. Well, the teachers I’ve had, and they are a great help to me in my journey of education.”
What are some of your favorite classes?
“My favorite classes? I would say medical because Mrs. Tellez is my dawg, and I think it’s my favorite class.”
Do you participate in any clubs or sports? Which ones?
“I’m in NHS, SNHS, Safe School Ambassadors, and Johnson’s Scholars. I used to be in color guard, and I tried out for track, but I quit.”
Why did you quit?
“Because the conditioning was hard!”
What are some of your favorite memories of Santaluces?
“I think when I was in guard, it was really fun because I had to participate in a team, and it really built up my teamwork skills. I used to be very isolated, so it made me spread my wings a little bit, and that was really fun. That happened freshman year, and I enjoyed the experience. Also, I would say sophomore year. My sophomore year was enjoyable. It changed my perspective.”
If you could go back to your freshman year, what would you tell yourself?
“I would say don’t be too hard on yourself, and better things are coming.”
What are some of your hobbies outside of school?
“I like to paint, I have a lot of paintings on my wall. I like to sew. I have a Spider-Man painting on my wall, I’m obsessed with Spider-Man! I’m going to do a Hello Kitty one next. I have a piano, but I want to play the saxophone next. And then after the saxophone, I want to play the guitar. Those are my top 3. And I want to do nails too, but first I want to get more into instruments.”
What are you most excited about next school year?
“To graduate, hun! But I’m most excited about the independence and admitting into colleges — although it might be scary, it’s the next stage of life. So I’m just walking up the ladder. I’m excited for college and to graduate.”
What was your favorite school year and why?
“My favorite school year? Sophomore year, I think it was sophomore year. Yeah, sophomore year, because I don’t know, I had more relationships sophomore year. I feel like I was more isolated freshman year in terms of friendships, and I didn’t really talk to people. But sophomore year, I kind of got more comfortable. And then I wouldn’t say junior year, because junior year was just so stressful — it was a lot of stress because of math class, but yeah.”
