Playboi Carti has teased the release of a new album since 2021. However, fans anticipation has been met with disappointment each year, until now. On March 14th, 2025, Playboi Carti released his newest album ” I AM MUSIC.” Over the past few weeks since its release, the album has garnered over 139 million streams, and is the seventh highest streaming day in Spotify history. As longtime fans of Playboi Carti, The Tribe staff writers Dan, Alex, and Steven each gave a review of the highly acclaimed album.

Dan's Review

I had a fun time listening to this album. Some songs were beautiful to listen to, while others were very entertaining to listen to, and not in a good way. When I say entertaining, I mean that the songs were so genuinely bad to the point that it was funny. For example, the songs “OPM BABI” and “MOJO JOJO.” In “MOJO JOJO,” Kendrick Lamar’s verse almost made me rip my hair out. Somehow, it managed to be both funny and hard to listen to all at the same time. To be honest, Kendrick Lamar’s features on the album wasn’t something that I specifically wanted, and I wasn’t the biggest fan of it. However, songs “TRIM TWIN,” “RATHER LIE,” FINE SH*T,” “JUMPIN,” and “SOUTH ATLANTA BABY” were major hits in my opinion. Listening to Lil Uzi’s features was something that I had yearned for, and was very happy to hear on the album. I also enjoyed “RATHER LIE” featuring The Weeknd, as it seems as if the two artists never fail to miss when they collaborate. Other songs on the album were pretty good as well, but not very notable in my opinion. Overall, the album has a few great songs and a few that are pretty bad, while the rest aren’t notable.

Alex's Review

After a much anticipated wait, Playboi Carti has finally dropped “I AM MUSIC.” After my first listen, I came to the opinion that he dropped an album that was overall great to listen to. However, was it worth the five year wait? Although there were some pretty great songs featured, I feel like the album could have been made better by shortening the number of songs featured. Some of my favorite songs on the album included, “CRUSH, HILLY, RATHER LIE, TOXIC, LIKE WHEEZY, JUMPIN, and TWIN TRIM.” Lil Uzi being featured on multiple songs in the album really added to the album, and in my opinion, completed the songs. The use of artist collaborations created a nice mix of musical styles, helping diversify the album. We can’t deny the undeniable love he is going to get regardless of the quality he drops, due to his influence regardless of my rating, to his fans he dropped the album of the year.
