Dustin Poirier, the underdog of the night, defeated Conor McGregor via TKO in 2 minutes and 32 seconds of the second round.
UFC 257, Poirier versus McGregor 2, took place Saturday, January 23rd at UFC fight island. After 6 years the wait is finally over in a blockbuster match between the former interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier, as he runs it back with the former 2 division champion Conor McGregor.
Dustin Poirier 26-6 fighting out of Coconut Creek Florida, and Conor McGregor, 22-4 fighting out of Dublin Ireland. Both fighters wasted no time and came out fast exchanging punches. Conor was looking laser-sharp, in the beginning, landing some nice punches, but Poirier was able to secure an early takedown, but Conor, showing excellent defense was able to get back to his feet.
The real story of that night was Poirier landing those fierce calf kicks keeping Conor off balance and due to that you could see the movement of McGregor slowing down. In the second round knowing Conor’s movement was restricted, Poirier was able to land a hard left hook that rocked Conor followed by a fury of punches that sat Conor to the floor. Poirier followed him to the ground knocking him with a few more intense punches until the referee stopped the bout.
Poirier also secured a $50,000 bonus for his impressive performance.
