The waves hairstyle became popular in the late 90s in the African-American Community. Getting waves consists of many steps like brushing, washing, and using certain products. Below these steps are listed for you to achieve the best waves.

Step 1: Get a Haircut

The first step is to go to your barbershop and ask for a low-taper haircut. As a beginner, it will help you greatly rather than starting with long hair. When you shave your hair it gives you a chance to restart the style. Although, if you already have waves you would wouldn’t get as low as a beginner.

Step 2: Buy Your Products

You’re going to need certain products for your waves that you normally wouldn’t use in your everyday hair routine. First off, you will need your shampoo and conditioner to keep your hair clean. Next, you will have to buy a wave brush so that when you are brushing your hair it can reach all angles of your head. Lastly, you will need a durag and wave cap so that it can lay down your hair

Step 3: Washing your hair

When you wash your hair it is best to use all natural products to preserve the condition of your hair. When you use conditioner, let it sit in your hair for two minutes before washing all the products out. While you are shampooing and conditioning, brush your hair with the wave brush so that it trains and lays down your hair. It is best to wash your hair three times per week to keep it as clean as possible.

Step 4: Brushing

When you first start brushing, use a soft brush since your hair will still be short. You will need to start from the crown of your head and brush away at every angle. Repeat this brushing process for five minutes every hour. When your hair starts to get longer, move on to a harder brush so that it will be able to reach your scalp.

Step 5: Laying your hair down

Laying down your hair is what keeps your hair compressed as waves. After brushing, you will need to put on your wave cap and durag on. Silk durags are the best to buy because they are beneficial for keeping your hair from getting dry. After putting on your wave cap and durag, it is best to either keep it on for at least an hour or while you are sleeping.

Maintaining 360 waves may take time and patience. After a month, all your brushing and washing will pay off and you will achieve your desired waves.
