The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz is an amazing read. Not only does it help develop self-confidence, but it also presents ancient Toltec wisdom distilled into practical guidance for leading a fulfilling life. These agreements guide readers toward personal growth and transformation. The book also highlights breaking away from societal standards to achieve and maintain happiness.
The agreements are:
1. Be Impeccable With Your Word.
This means to speak with integrity, truth, and positivity. Believe it or not, words carry a scary amount of capability. They can change you and the people around you. It’s incredibly important to think before you speak because you never know what can happen.
2. Don’t Take Anything Personally.
In this day and age, it is extremely important to stand by this. This generation is great at taking things to heart and as a result, people get hurt. Our actions are a reaction to others’ perceptions and beliefs. No matter how sweet or bitter you are, people can and will see the complete opposite. To avoid taking things personally, we should prolong emotional freedom.
3. Don’t Make Assumptions.
Elucidate things you don’t understand instead of making assumptions. Assumptions turn into weight, which then makes you take things personally. This leads to misunderstandings and conflict.
4. Always Do Your Best
No matter how difficult or scary things are, ALWAYS do your best. Only you can better yourself. Strive for your personal best every time! This promotes self-love and avoids self-judgement.
By tying these agreements into your daily life, you could gain so much happiness and relief. These are agreements everyone should live by, I honestly think the world would be so much better if we did.
